In The Fold, Kildare Village, May 2015
This February, in a synthesis of sartorial, curatorial, architectural and directorial excellence, a touring exhibition led by Irish Design 2015 and fashion exhibition partners Kildare Village, premiered at London Fashion Week’s International Fashion Showcase. ID2015 is a year long programme aimed at exploring and promoting Irish Design both at home and internationally.
In The Fold marked Ireland’s inaugural participation in the International Fashion Showcase – an annual British Fashion Council and British Council initiative which presents the work of emerging fashion designers from across the globe.
The exhibition, directed by ID2015 Fashion & Textiles Advisor Aisling Farinella, was curated by London-based Irish curator, Gemma A Williams. Together they selected eight young Irish fashion graduates who share similarities in terms of their ideals and approach to design, a minimal aesthetic and a talent for executing highly crafted and expertly finished garments. The chosen designers are Rory Parnell Mooney, Michael Stewart, Caoimhe MacNeice, Naoise Farrell, Richard Malone, Jocelyn Murray Boyne, Oliver Duncan Doherty and Laura Kinsella.
Irish architects abgc worked closely with Williams to design a site-specific installation. The result is a timber and white steel sheet structure, designed to ensure each work could be experienced both individually and as part of a larger collection.
In The Fold is currently on display in Kildare Village, Ireland’s premiere luxury shopping village, for the month of May and will be accompanied by a series of weekly fashion and design focused talks and events.
